Mushroom Forage, Foray and Fun!, September 28, 2024 10:00AM

Come enjoy a collaborative exploratory art forage walk with Phipps, Western PA Mushroom Club, and Flannel Roots Farm, combining all things the imaginative outdoors and fungi can offer!
We will explore the world of fungi with a piloted foraged ID with the Western PA Mushroom Club, collecting specimens and bringing them back jointly for an ID table for those curious of their finds. This is a perfect opportunity to learn some foraging ID of natural fungi in the area.

During the cooperative process of ID-ing the mushrooms, there will be small bites provided by Flannel Roots Farm. Small bites are inclusive to (seasonal mushrooms available) a seasonal mushroom drink, a sample mushrooms appetizers, and a mushroom snack/dessert option ALL MADE USING MUSHROOMS! *allergy noted* Please let us know if you have any airborne allergies.

Note: You may still want to bring a lunch for additional snacking.

There is also an optional material fee of $15 that comes with a canvas bag, perfect for foraging, and 1 watercolor travel kit, perfect for on the go painting, from Flannel Roots. Each color is created using natural materials inclusive mushrooms and foraged materials from the Mon Valley Area south of Pittsburgh. Participants may use the time, materials, and mushrooms foraged to create one of a kind local landscape or still life pieces. If you do not opt to purchase the materials, feel free to bring your own watercolors or art medium of choice to join in. Let’s creatively collaborate together like mycelium and have a FUN-gi time!

We will talk about different species of fungi, where to find them, and tips and tricks for easy identification.

Please wear comfortable outdoor walking shoes, bring a water bottle and sun protection. We do advice you still bring a lunch as mushroom snacks will be light.  Location details will be e-mailed to you upon nearing of event. The location is ADA accessible however the walk will go on trails that may not be. This event is RAIN OR SHINE, so please come dressed appropriately. In the circumstance of unsafe conditions, you will be e-mailed the day prior by 5 p.m.
