Description

Explore the magic of standing hand brooms in this 2.5 hour workshop hosted by Husk Brooms. Crafted with a flat edge, these hand brooms will be able to stand on their own bristles. Both hand brooms will be made with broom corn (a type of sorghum ) and nylon twine. Broomcorn is the essential natural material for household cleaning because it’s delicate enough to catch hair and smaller debris while being strong enough to bend without breaking.

The Turkey Tail design is a beginner friendly style for broom makers. Students should feel comfortable using a knife, box cutter and a lighter.

Broommaking requires dexterity in both hands and feet. Using the foot bobbin without socks or shoes on is surprisingly easier! Students will craft one hand broom and have the option to select their preferred color of nylon cord.

Participants will leave the workshop with one turkey tail hand broom and one cottage brush.
