Learn the craft of needle felting or sharpen your skills while creating a whimsical wool cactus! In this hands-on class participants will make and take home their very own sculptural cactus in a miniature terracotta pot. A truly zero-care-required houseplant. Needle felting is a dry felting technique employing specialized needles to entangle the wool fibers and create solid forms. It lends itself very well to organic sculptural forms and is a pleasant and forgiving medium, but please keep in mind that the needles are extremely sharp and the process requires repetitive hand movements.

Needle felting is a dry felting technique employing specialized needles to entangle the wool fibers. It lends itself very well to organic sculptural forms and is a pleasant and forgiving medium, but please keep in mind that the needles are extremely sharp. Finished pieces will be 2-4 inches tall and all necessary materials will be sent home to continue working should anyone need more time to finish.
This class allows creative freedom and every student works at a different pace. Please note the finished product may not match that pictured.
Instructor: Erin Carlson is the founder and artist behind Red Cottage Fiber Studio, a practice devoted to weaving, felting, and gardening. Erin has been teaching, exhibiting, and selling her work in the Rustbelt Region for the past decade and has a special interest in natural fibers, particularly growing flax to process into linen.
